Toby Aromolaran, the runner-up of Love Island 2021, has opened up about his decision to join the new spin-off show Love Island Games. The reality star, who split from his ex-girlfriend Chloe Burrows earlier this year, said that their relationship was the reason he wanted to give on-screen love another chance.

Toby and Chloe’s Love Island journey

Toby and Chloe met on Love Island in 2021 and quickly became one of the most popular couples on the show. They had their ups and downs, especially when Toby was tempted by other girls in Casa Amor, but they eventually reconciled and made it to the final. They came second, losing to Millie Court and Liam Reardon, and moved in together in Essex shortly after leaving the villa.

However, their romance did not last long, as they announced their breakup in October 2022. Toby said that they had “serious core problems” that led them to end their relationship, which he claimed was not a hard decision. Chloe, on the other hand, said that she was “heartbroken” by the split and that she still loved Toby.

Toby’s new adventure on Love Island Games

Despite his breakup with Chloe, Toby seems to have fond memories of the experience that led him to meet her. Speaking to his fellow UK contestants on Love Island Games, he said that their relationship inspired him to come on the game show.

“We were speaking, we were quite friendly and I told him about it. It wasn’t a difficult conversation because we are friends,” Chloe said during a Celebs Go Dating launch event (via The Mirror). “I know he said in an article recently that we don’t speak but, we’re not on bad terms. Out of respect, I did tell him and he was like: ‘Do it.’ I don’t know if he was jumping for joy but, he knew.”

Love Island Games is a new show that features former contestants from the UK and US versions of Love Island competing in various challenges and trying to find love again. Toby is one of the eight UK stars who joined the show, along with Liberty Poole, Jack Fowler, Curtis Pritchard, Georgia Steel, Amy Hart, Michael Griffiths and Anna Vakili.

Toby’s connection with Cely Vazquez

On the first episode of Love Island Games, Toby coupled up with US contestant Cely Vazquez, who was also a runner-up on her season of Love Island USA. The pair seemed to hit it off and shared some candid conversations about their past Love Island experiences.

“A bombshell came in, her name was Chloe, coupled up with her and then Casa Amor came,” Toby told Cely. “Yeah, it wasn’t the best time,” he said through a pained smile.

Cely also opened up about her own Casa Amor drama, as she was betrayed by her former partner Johnny Middlebrooks, who kissed another girl behind her back. She said that she wished she had dumped him sooner and that she was ready to move on with someone new.

Will Toby and Cely find lasting love on Love Island Games? Or will they be tempted by other islanders? Fans will have to tune in to find out.

You can watch Love Island Games every night from 9pm until the end of November on Peacock.
