How did she get the gig?

Tomlinson was announced as the host of CBS’ new late-night show “After Midnight” on Wednesday, November 2, 2023, by Stephen Colbert, who will executive produce the show. Colbert introduced Tomlinson on his show “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, and invited her to join him on stage for a chat.

Colbert praised Tomlinson for her comedy skills and said he was excited to work with her. He also joked that he needed someone who was “fun, likable, young, in touch with online trends and available every night of the week” to host the show.

Tomlinson expressed her gratitude and excitement for the opportunity, and said she had never had a real job before. She also thanked Colbert for his support and guidance, and said she was looking forward to learning from him.

What is After Midnight?

“After Midnight” is a new late-night show that will air on CBS in early 2024, following “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”. It will take over the time slot previously occupied by “The Late Late Show with James Corden”, which ended in April 2023.

The show is based on “@midnight”, a comedy panel show that ran on Comedy Central from 2013 to 2017, hosted by Chris Hardwick. The show featured guest comedians who competed in various games and segments based on internet culture, social media, and pop culture.

“After Midnight” will have a similar format, but with Tomlinson as the host and a new team of writers and producers. The show will also feature celebrity guests, musical performances, sketches, and field pieces.

The show is co-produced by Spartina Industries, Funny Or Die, Serious Business, and CBS Studios. The executive producers are Stephen Colbert, Carrie Byalick, Tom Purcell, Evelyn McGee Colbert, James Dixon, Joe Farrell, Mike Farah, Whitney Hodack, Henry R. Muñoz III, Jack Martin, Eric Pierce, Jo Firestone, Alexx Wells, and Jason U. Nadler.
